Documentary on Lavinia Williams' work as a ballet teacher in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, particularly during the years 1957-1959, including footage of her students in class and performance. Film version (*MGZHB 16-1742 Academy of Ballet in Haiti) offers a somewhat clearer visual image but lacks soundtrack.

Shown warming up in the studio, Williams discusses her dance background, which includes ballet, modern, and ethnic dance; reminisces about her work with Katherine Dunham and George Balanchine on the musical comedy Cabin in the sky; and describes her approach to teaching. - Ballet and tap students at the union school (?) in Haiti, ca. 1954. - Lavinia Williams Yarborough présente Cours de ballet et chorégraphies avec ses elèves, ca. 1957 (color). Williams and her students are seen in class. Her star pupils, among them Régine Maximilien (?), Rose-Marie Joseph, Linda Barreyre, Jo Archer, and others, perform in costume on a rooftop and on Williams' porch. - Rose-Marie Joseph and Régine Maximilien perform solos, ca. 1959 (color). - Régine Maximilien performs pointe exercises and her own choreography, ca. 1960 (color). Williams' daughter Sara Yarborough, then 9 or 10 years old, also dances in this section.
