Among the subjects discussed by de Mille in cassette 1 are writing, contrasted with choreography; her childhood decision to dance, inspired by Adeline Genée and Anna Pavlova; reminiscences of her family, including her uncle Cecil B. de Mille; the beginning of her dance career; her studies with Marie Rambert in England; her stroke and its effects -- Cassette 2 (ca. 58 min.). She continues to recall her experiences in England, including her friendship with Antony Tudor and Hugh Laing; her return to the U.S. and involvement with Ballet Theatre; the creation of her ballets Obeah and Three virgins and a devil; her impressions of Martha Graham; her first contacts with her husband Walter Prude; the creation of Rodeo and her collaboration with Aaron Copland; her work in musical comedy, particularly on Oklahoma!; the choreographic process, especially in relation to music; her creation of Drums sound in Hackensack for the Jooss Ballet; and dance in television -- Cassette 3 (ca. 27 min.).
