- Summary
- Documentary on the history and culture of Native American tribes of the Pacific Northwest coast, especially the Makah, Kwakiutl, Haida, and Tsimshian. Present-day efforts to preserve and revive this culture are also depicted. The brief dance footage includes glimpses of Kwakiutl and Makah mask dances, and a Tsimshian chiefs' competition dance presented at 'Ksan Village, a reconstruction of a traditional Native American village. Topics related to dance include masks, the function of the potlatch in Native American society, and artifacts used in shamanic rites.
