Summary

Dancer/choreographer Merce Cunningham relates how he became interested in videodance, and describes his perceptions of its special qualities, as contrasted to stage performances. He talks about his working process, his collaboration with filmmaker Charles Atlas, challenges he sets up for himself, and some of the technical and creative problems he encounters while making videodances. Three of his video works, excerpts of which are shown during the program, are discussed in detail: Blue studio (1975), Westbeth (1974, b&w), and Fractions (1978, b&w and color).
