Summary
Meredith Monk and Laura Dean look back upon their experiences with television, both in adapting existing stage works and creating videodances. They discuss the problems and challenges of working with video in regard to both choreography and musical composition, and compare the quality of American and European television, recognizing the need for more experimentalism in the U.S. Excerpts screened represent Monk's Ellis Island (b&w), Paris, and Turtle dreams, and Dean's Tympani. Kenneth Archer, in Esoterica balletica, corrects a misconception about the origin of Igor Stravinsky's The rite of spring, which was actually conceived by the designer Nicholas Roerich.
