Summary
Dance historians Nancy Reynolds, Dale Harris, and Parmenia Ekstrom review and comment upon some important collaborations in the history of ballet: the work of Lully and his family at the French court of Louis XIV; the collaboration of Petipa and Tchaikovsky, particularly as manifested in The sleeping beauty; Diaghilev's significance as artistic catalyst; the innovations of Nijinsky and Stravinsky in The rite of spring, and of Massine, Picasso, and Satie in Parade; the collaboration of Balanchine and Stravinsky, particularly the ballets Agon and Orpheus; Tchelitchew's innovations as lighting designer, especially in Massine's Ode. In Esoterica balletica, Israeli choreographer Domy Reiter-Soffer debates the advantages and disadvantages of subsidies and job security for dancers.
