Summary
Choreographers Ruby Shang and Mel Wong, who is also a visual artist, talk about their interest in site-specific choreography and the influence of the visual arts on their work. They discuss their hopes of doing pieces at the Great Wall of China, the influence of their Asian ethnicity, their visual sources of inspiration (drawing, architecture), and some artists who have influenced them, including Christo, Richard Diebenkorn, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jasper Johns. Shang also mentions the sound sculpture of Max Niehaus. Shang's Cooper Union project and a collage of Wong's works are shown in recorded excerpts. In Esoterica balletica, choreographer Ohad Naharin shows a sample of a work combining calligraphy, poetry, dance, and music.
