Summary

Guests are dancers Christopher Gillis of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Nancy Stark Smith, who pioneered contact improvisation with Steve Paxton, and Barbara Salz, co-artistic director of the Multigravitational Aerodance Group. They discuss the athletic challenges and element of risk in their respective dance forms, describe how they train and rehearse, and note the difficulties of developing a vocabulary for these innovative forms of dance. Recorded excerpts depict a contact improvisation performance by Smith and Paxton; Autumn song, an aerial dance choreographed by Salz and Kay Gainer; and a promo for the Paul Taylor Dance Company.
