Summary
Guests are Doris Rudko, who assisted Louis Horst as a dancer from 1953 to 1963, dancer Dorothy Bird, and Marian Seldes, an actress who studied with Horst in the 1940s. They reminisce about Horst's many contributions to modern dance, particularly to his work in pioneering the formal teaching of choreography. His professional relationship with Martha Graham is also recalled, and Bird tells an anecdote about working with them on a dance to music by Varèse. Rudko and Seldes describe his classes in choreography, and how he worked with dancers to help them craft their movement ideas. They also pay tribute to the periodical Dance observer, which he founded and edited. In Esoterica balletica, Jean Erdman introduces her work The transformations of Medusa, created to music by Horst, which is performed by Muna Tseng.
