- Summary
- Composers Edwina Lee Tyler and Lenny Pickett compare the relation of music and dance in Africa and the U.S. Tyler recalls her dance studies with Syvilla Fort and how this contributed to her performance as a percussionist; Pickett points out how musicians respond kinetically as they play. They explore many aspects of the interaction between dancers and musicians, including musical improvisation as accompaniment for dance classes, the benefits musicians gain by watching dance, and dancers' responses to or interpretation of music. Pickett performs with his group, Borneo Horns. Tyler plays an excerpt from her work The heartbeat. In Esoterica balletica, Frances Becker provides some humorous solutions to the problem of greeting performer friends after less than stellar performances.
