Summary
Guests are three Latin-American modern dancers/choreographers: Damelia Mujica, from Cuba; Viveca Vázquez, from Puerto Rico; and Eva Gasteazoro, from Nicaragua. Among the issues they discuss are their treatment of socio-political and feminist themes in their choreography, their incorporation of Spanish or bilingual text, and the place of modern dance in their respective countries. Performance excerpts include Gasteazoro's As if I detached from the day, Mujica's Worlds' rims, and a solo choreographed by Vázquez and danced by Mari Martín. In Esoterica balletica, Awilda Sterling describes and performs some songs and dances reflecting her Puerto Rican heritage, among them the plena.
