Summary

Visual artists Judy Pfaff and Power Boothe discuss their recent collaborations with choreographers. Pfaff talks about the set she created for Nina Wiener's Wind devil, presented at Brooklyn Academy of Music. Boothe recalls the inspiration he found in the collaboration of Merce Cunningham, John Cage, and Robert Rauschenberg; his work with Richard Foreman; and his interest in the downtown theater scene, which led him to collaborate with David Gordon, Charles Moulton and A. Leroy, and others. They also discuss the adaptation of their work to the stage, their approaches towards collaboration, and the lack of financial compensation for theatrical work. Boothe's stage designs are seen in dance excerpts from Moulton's Variety show and Gordon's Trying times and My folks; Pfaff's work is represented by an excerpt from Wind devil. In an untitled additional feature, Meredith Monk talks about her use of vocalizing in her work. Excerpts from Quarry and Turtle dreams are screened, and Monk performs a vocal solo and plays the jew's-harp.
