Guests are Peter Steadman, founding director of the New York Greek Drama Company; Eve Beglarian, a musician and composer associated with the company; and Rachel Kitzinger, assistant professor of classics at Vassar. They discuss various aspects of ancient Greek poetry, music and dance, particularly in their theatrical applications. Some topics include the functions of dance in Greek society, the use of the chorus by Greek dramatists such as Sophocles, the contributions of Sappho, and the reconstruction of Greek music and dancing. Several excerpts from Songs of Sappho, a video recording by the New York Greek Drama Company, are shown, as well as an excerpt from the company's production of Medea.
