- 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (29 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
- Summary
- Guests are Valentina Kozlova, a former member of the Bolshoi Ballet who is now a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet; Andris Liepa, a Bolshoi dancer appearing with American Ballet Theatre; and author Nancy Reynolds, who recently returned from observing the Kirov Ballet. Citing their own experiences and perceptions, they compare the four companies in terms of company classes, coaching, partnering, performance schedules, preparation for performance, and different approaches to technique and musicality. Performance excerpts depict the Bolshoi Ballet in Les sylphides and Spartacus (from the videotape An evening with the Bolshoi Ballet), the Kirov Ballet in The sleeping beauty, and American Ballet Theatre in Don Quixote and Swan lake.
