Summary
Excerpts of dance and music performances presented by participants in the Fifth Festival of Pacific Arts, held in Townsville, Queensland, Australia, on August 14-27, 1988. Photographed by a 24-member field expedition team consisting of members of the World Arts and Cultures Program at UCLA and of the Los Angeles artistic community. The excerpts represent the regions of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia, and include many different types of dances, among them weapon dances, mask dances, drum dances, and children's dances. There are also glimpses of craftwork, face- and body-painting, and the donning of headdresses and ornaments worn in the dance.
