Summary

Unedited footage, recorded for the documentary Ruth Page: Once upon a dancer (1988). For the completed documentary, see: *MGZIA 4-1249 cassettte 129. In two separate interviews, dancers Orrin Kayan and Patricia Klekovic talk about their careers, with special reference to Ruth Page as choreographer, director, and person. The third "interview" is actually an informal conversation between Kayan, Klekovic, and two other former dancers, Dolores Lipinski and Larry Long.

CONTENTS: Cassette 77 (approx. 19 min.): Interview with Kayan, who discusses company tours, his favorite roles, the ballets Combinations and Carmen, and his professional and personal interactions with Page. -- Cassette 78 (approx. 20 min.). Interview with Kayan, continued. He talks about Page's husband Tom Fisher, his and Page's retirement from performing, and his second career as a teacher, and relates an anecdote about working with Page in Spoleto. -- Cassette 79 (approx. 19 min.): Conclusion of interview with Kayan (first 4 1/2 min.). -- Interview with Klekovic (approx. 14 1/2 min.). Reminiscing about Page as choreographer and director, she describes the creation of Camille, and recalls a favorite role, Carmen. -- Cassette 80 (approx. 21 min.): Interview with Klekovic, continued. She describes the creation of Romeo and Juliet and Concertino pour trois, and recalls Page's performance in Susanna and the barber. Other topics include becoming a teacher upon her retirement from performing, her relationship with Page, and the lack of appreciation for Page's achievements. -- Cassette 81 (approx. 20 min.): Conclusion of interview with Klekovic (first 6 min.).
