Documentary on music videos, including discussions of their roots in rock 'n' roll dancing, street dancing and dancing in clubs (break dancing, popping, electric boogie, voguing, hip-hop), and the influences of Motown Records, film musicals of the 1950s and 60s, and established dance forms such as jazz dancing and ballet. The special contributions of Cholly Atkins, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, M. C. Hammer, and Rosie Perez are spotlighted. The program is profusely illustrated by excerpts from performances and music videos. Commentators include choreographers Vincent Paterson, Michael Peters, Rosie Perez, Barry Lather, Anthony Thomas, Atkins, Michael Kidd, and Jamale Graves; performers Hammer, Abdul, Brown, Mr. Wiggles [Steve Clemente], Crazy Legs [Richie Colon], and Willi Ninja; director Martin Scorsese; and music critic Nelson George.
