3 videocassettes (U-matic, NTSC) (134 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences; 3/4 in.
Summary
Welcoming remarks by Madeleine Nichols, curator of the Dance Collection, followed by a panel discussion by Merrill Brockway, Barbara Horgan, and Judy Kinberg, moderated by Jac Venza, and illustrated by excerpts from telecasts of Balanchine's ballets, many of which were produced or directed by Brockway, Kinberg, and Venza. The panelists note the technical considerations of recording dance for television, and the ways in which Balanchine adapted his choreography to the requirements of the medium. They discuss telecasts of his ballets in the U.S. and abroad, and his collaborations with Reiner Moritz, Emile Ardolino, and others. A question-and-answer period concludes the program.
