Description
1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (29 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
Summary
The guests discuss Ballet Hispanico's role in helping Latino dancers maintain and take pride in their ethnic identity. Ramirez recalls her studies with the inspirational teacher Carmelita Maracci, also of Hispanic descent. She discusses her company's use of flamenco dancing as a means of giving young dancers performing experience, and describes how the company's repertory retains its Hispanic heritage. Daniele talks about the aesthetic vision she shares with Ramirez and her experience of working with Ballet Hispanico on Stages and Cada noche--tango, excerpts from which are screened. Other topics include the special qualities of Hispanic dancers, Daniele's work as a choreographer-director of Broadway musicals, and auditions for Ballet Hispanico. Additional dance excerpts depict George Faison's Cafe America and Antonio Santaella's Tanquillo de Cadiz, the latter performed by Ballet Hispanico School of Dance.
