- Photoreproductions of original documents in the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, Connecticut, relating to the formation of the School of American Ballet and the American Ballet Company founded by Lincoln Kirstein and Edward M. M. Warburg in 1934. Comprises copies of telegrams, correspondence, press releases, program of gala premiere, December 6, 1934 in Hartford, newspaper announcement of the company's New York debut, and photograph of A. Everett Austin, director of the Wadsworth Atheneum at the time. The correspondence, chiefly between Lincoln Kirstein and A. Everett Austin, relates to efforts to bring George Balanchine, Vladimir Dimitriew, and others to the United States and plans for the Hartford premiere of the company.
