Summary
Dancer-choreographer Jane Dudley talks about the creation of her dance solo Harmonica breakdown in 1938. She recalls the desire of artists of the period to change society; the social climate of the Depression years; and the music of Sonny Terry (who is seen in archival footage) that inspired her choreography. Still photographs by Gerda Peterich, showing Dudley performing the solo, illustrate Dudley's description of the dance's imagery. She is seen rehearsing with Sheron Wray, who performs the solo in full.
