- Summary
- British ballerina Maude Lloyd, who danced with Antony Tudor in London in the 1930s, reminisces about him as dancer, choreographer, and private person. She recalls the creation of his ballets Jardin aux lilas (Lilac garden) and Dark elegies for Marie Rambert's company, noting his innovative use of everyday movement and real people's situations, integrated into the framework of classical ballet. She also discusses the many personalities associated with Tudor at the time, among them Marie Rambert (whose Ballet Club, later called Ballet Rambert, produced his first ballets), Hugh Laing, and Agnes de Mille. The discussion also covers the formation of Tudor's own company, the London Ballet, and his subsequent immigration to the U.S., where ballerina Nora Kaye took over many of Lloyd's roles when his works were restaged for Ballet Theatre. Also mentioned in the discussion are Tudor's ballets Shadowplay, The descent of Hebe, The planets, and Dim lustre.
