- Description
- 1 videodisc (30 min.) : sd., col.; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- Documentary (ca. 27 min.) on the Trinity Irish Dancers and the associated Trinity Dance Academies in Chicago and Milwaukee. Mark Howard, the company's artistic director and principal instructor, talks about Irish step dancing as art and competition. He and other speakers discuss the tradition of Irish step dancing, which continues to evolve; the differences between hard shoe and soft shoe dances; and costumes and hairstyles for competitions. The Trinity Irish Dancers, who won world championships in Ireland in 1987 and 1990, are seen performing at Milwaukee's Irish Fest, and in two complete dance works, The mist (choreography, Mark Howard and Michael Smith ; music, Michael Kirkpatrick and Kathleen Keane) and Grania O'Malley (choreography, Mark Howard ; music, Michael Kirkpatrick). In a brief news report (ca. 3 min.) following the documentary, the company is seen performing at a Celtics basketball game at Bradley Center in Milwaukee, and in brief clips from the film Backdraft and the television shows Tonight (with Johnny Carson) and Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.
