Summary
Documentary on Kodō, a company of drummers who live communally on the island of Sado, Japan. In addition to performance footage recorded onstage and in various outdoor locations, the men and women of the company are seen running and doing strengthening exercises in preparation for the physical demands of drumming, making the taiko (drums), rehearsing, and going about their daily activities. Company director Toshio Kawauchi and other group members talk about aspects of their life and art, including their wish to maintain a lifestyle in touch with nature, and their repertory, which includes contemporary as well as traditional music.
