- "The ... mss. are without name or date, but contain internal evidence of having been written by a member of the Hamilton family, about the latter end of the 17th century, and certainly prior to the year 1763 ... the editor has come to the conclusion, from the internal evidence ... that it was Mr. William Hamilton, of Edinburgh ... who was their author. He died about the year 1712, at Killileagh castle."--Introd.
