Pforzheimer copy 1: 1st issue, with the copyright notice and imprint to the verso of title-leaf in volume I; garbled footnote in volume II, page 239, first page of terminal advertisements reads: "Books Published..." -- Bound in publisher's purple S-like cloth (since faded) damasked with a floral pattern (BAL's cloth D); folding map inserted at the beginning of volume I. -- With the ownership stamp of O. D. F. Grant on the title page of each volume. -- Acquired by Carl H. Pforzheimer prior to 1957; typed letter signed to Pforzheimer from William Langfeld regarding this copy laid in at the beginning of volume II.
