When Hodgkins was discovered pilfering shop profits, Godwin managed to have him removed from the business, despite the fact that it legally belonged to Hodgkins. The company was soon reestablished under the name of Godwin's second wife, Mary Jane (cf. St. Clair's The Godwins and the Shelleys).
