Summary
Educational program depicting how Native Americans found inspiration for their dances in nature. Images of birds and animals, photographed on location or in dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History, are interspersed with examples of Native American dances from different parts of the country. The courtship dance of the short-tailed grouse is compared to a courtship dance of the Plains Indians; the American eagle in flight to the Iroquois sacred feather dance; the deer of the southwest desert to a Pueblo deer dance celebrating a successful hunt; and buffalo to a Plains Indians buffalo hunting dance performed with mask, shield, and spear.
