- Hogg's novel was reviewed by Percy Bysshe Shelley in the 'Critical Review' for December 1814. This review was first reprinted, in pamphlet form, by the Shelley Society in 1886. According to Dr. Richard Garnett, the character of Prince Haimatoff is taken from Shelley himself. -- cf. laid in bookseller's description.
