Summary
Educational program for children aged 3-12. After brief scenes of children in pre-ballet and ballet classes (including a demonstration of the five positions of classical ballet), the program focuses on the experience of being a child dancer in the San Jose Dance Theatre's production of The nutcracker, beginning with auditions and proceeding through rehearsals, fittings, backstage preparations, and performance. Girls of various ages, playing different roles in the production, describe what it is like to dance in the ballet. The program concludes with a capsule version of the ballet, with voice-over narration explaining the action. Artistic director Paul Curtis and company member Shawn Stewart are briefly glimpsed in audition scenes.
