Pforzheimer copy: 1st edition, 1st issue, title-pages without edition statement and press figures as follows: volume I, 22-3; volume II, 12-9; volume II, 13-4, 15-4. -- Contemporary half brown calf over marbled boards, spines tooled in gilt with fillets, titling and numbers stamped in gilt; spine of volume II crudely patched, spines of volumes I and III partially missing. -- Contemporary engraved bookplate with initials AR to front pastedown of volumes I and II (since removed from volume III though offset remains). -- Acquired by Carl H. Pforzheimer from Elkin Mathews through Gabriel Wells, November 1927.

Berg Coll Lewis, M. 1796. c. 1: 1st edition, 1st issue, title-pages without edition statement and press figures as follows: volume I, 22-3; volume II, 12-9; volume II, 13-4, 15-4. -- Contemporary (likely original) half brown calf over marbled boards, leaves untrimmed, numbers stamped in gilt, gilt leather spine labels with title: "HOOKHAM'S / LIBRARY" almost entirely effaced; housed in an open-back cloth slipcase. -- Circulating library label pasted to the upper cover of each volume, reads in full: "Hookham's Circulating Library, Old Bond Street. Opposite Stafford Street. To be returned as soon as Read." -- From the library of Owen D. Young.
