  • Introductory "Sonnet" (page 3) is by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. "The grandam" (pages 25-27) is by Charles Lamb in memory of Lamb's grandmother Mary Field (cf. Thomson).
  • Folio, unsigned [watermark: 1794/J WHATMAN].
  • Page 23 misnumbered 22; a variant has page 23 correctly numbered (cf. ESTC).
  • Epigraph: "Death! Thou hast visited that pleasant place, / Where in this hard world I have happiest been" -- William Lisle Bowles.
