- Note
- Authorship of Bertha's journal (first published as Bertha's visit to her uncle in England (1830), afterwards as Bertha's journal during a visit to her uncle in England (1843-1846)) and The heiress in her minority (1850) is ascribed to Jane Haldimand Marcet in OCLC WorldCat and other sources.
- Library copy is apparently a pre-publication or proof copy. On title pages, the words "Evelyn" and "being sketches of the early years of an heiress" are lined through in ink, and "The minority of an heiress" is inscribed in ink above the title; initialed at end of each volume: L.M., R.H., J.L. Examination of a digital copy of the work published as The heiress in her minority, or, The progress of character / by the author of Bertha's journal, with imprint as above, indicates that it is the same work with a new title page.
- Advertised in "Mr. Murray's list of works in progress" (advertising section dated Albemarle Street, April 1849, in the Quarterly review, March 1849), page 11, as "Evelyn; or The progress of character; sketches of the early years of an heiress, by author of Bertha's journal. 2 vols. 12mo."
