- [Begins with six min. of musical selections from Gottschalk's Cakewalk.] Ms. Bush and Mr. Englund discuss the Birmingham Ballet; the training of dancers who join larger companies; providing performing experience for the young dancer; various regional ballet festivals; the company's apprentice program; performing a full-length production of Swan lake; the company's repertory and choreographers; creating an audience for ballet; their leaving positions at American Ballet Theatre and building the company in Birmingham; keeping the company financially solvent; the ballet guild's fundraising efforts; administrative duties; and practical aspects of running the company. [29 min.]
- Mr. Carmines discusses the church and the arts; the distinction between moralism and morality; art as a reflection of life; the church's obligation to present alternative views of art and religion; establishing a dialogue between the artist and the church; difficulties in maintaining artistic integrity in large urban areas as opposed to regional areas; and jazz as a form of worship. [9 min.] [Remainder of tape consists of Marian Horosko making 5 min. of announcements of current dance activities, followed by 12 min. of music from Tchaikowsky's Sleeping beauty.]
