- Summary
- Mr. Luft discusses the January 25th performance of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens at the Brooklyn Academy of Music; the formation of the company in 1958 because of a need for dancers for television; artistic director Ludmilla Chiriaeff doing 500 shows for Canadian television within four years; Madame Chiriaeff's background as a pupil of Vaganova; government support for the company; touring with a full orchestra; Fernand Nault as the company's ballet master; and the company's repertory. [12 min.]
- Mr. Mark discusses the National Endowment for the Arts challenge grant awarded to American Ballet Theatre; how the Endowment panel determines grant recipients; grants for choreographers; assuring artistic freedom for various projects; the Endowment's grant budget; and what choreographers can do to get their work funded.
