Mr. Louis discusses his company's current New York season and the difficulties of maintaining a company while incurring financial losses; the importance of getting New York reviews in order to obtain tour bookings; working with Alwin Nikolais at the Henry Street Playhouse; maintaining a company while teaching and touring; the formation of the National Dance Foundation with Alvin Ailey, Nikolais, Paul Taylor, and Merce Cunningham; the importance of the National Endowment for the Arts; the dance explosion; the State Department tour to India; the history of Indian dance; his own dance vocabulary; teaching a trilingual workshop in Switzerland and the language influence on the quality of movement.
