Summary
Documentary on Sara Levi-Tanai, founder of Inbal, which was originally founded as a Yemenite dance company, although its scope has broadened to include other Middle Eastern influences. In interviews Levi-Tanai recalls the inspiration for the company, the training and development of its dancers (who are seen in company class), her own early interest in music and performing, and the sources of her choreographic ideas, which are often political or religious. The garden of nuts, a song written by her, is seen in dance form as a performance excerpt and is also sung by Ahinoam Nini. The documentary includes numerous rehearsal and performance excerpts by members of Inbal. This video won the Prix Danses, traditions du monde/Prix Luise Scripps, at the 8ème Grand Prix International Vidéo Danse in 1995.
