- Cassette 1. Recorded January 22, 1996. Ms. Cohen disucsses her first exposure to dance through ballet and other classes with Edna McCrae; her family background; her dissertation on Gerard Manley Hoplins: her first published work in the American Journal of Aesthetics; teaching and studying at Eugene Loring's school; deciding to come to New York; becoming acquainted with dance forms other than ballet; teaching at the High School of Performing Arts; her experiences as a dance critic; teaching seminars supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities; Al Pischl and developing the idea of Dance Perspectives; becoming the magazine's editor; her decision to leave Dance Perspectives; different teaching experiences; the Dance Perspectives Foundation and the De la Torre Bueno Prize; developing courses in dance writing and criticism; Society of Dance History Scholars; and the pending International Encyclopedia of Dance.
