- Ms. Maxwell describes her connection with Doris Humphrey through José Limón; her first impressions of Humphrey's work and comparing it to Limón's; the relationship between Humphrey and Limón, both personally and historically; Humphrey's choreographies Day on earth and Ritmo jondo; Ernestine Stodelle; issues in the reconstruction and performance of Humphrey's and Limón's works; the Humphrey and Limón techniques; teaching specific works; teaching technique; balancing aesthetic and financial considerations as director of the Limón Dance Company; the influences of Ruth Currier, Lucy Venable, and Stodelle on her experience with Humphrey's choreography; and the financial restraints faced by dance companies.
