Leroy Street is pseudonym for Millard Fillmore Hopper.
Published in the same year as William S. Burroughs's "Junkie." Treats an earlier period contemporary with the Harrison Act (1914), which regulated opiate prescriptions. Hopper later became a renowned checker-player. In 1953, the same year as the book's publication, he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, billed as the "King of Checkers."
