Biography
Playwright and teacher. P.[Pat] J. Gibson was born in Pittsburgh, PA, grew up in Trenton, NJ. She received the B.A. from Keuka College, Keuka Park, NY, 1973, and the M.F.A., from Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, 1975. Gibson has been production stage manager at Voices, Inc., New York, 1971-1973; From 1974 to 1975, she was creative arts director at Roxbury Children's Theater, Dorchester, MA; and from 1976 to 1977, project administrator of Rites and Reason Theater, Brown University, Providence, RI. Gibson is the winner of two AUDELCO (Audience Development Committee) Awards, one for Playwright of the Year, and the other for Production of the Year - both for her play, "Long time since yesterday," c1986.
Gibson was playwright-in-residence at the Cultural Council Foundation/Black Theater Alliance, New York, 1980. In addition to the AUDELCO Awards mentioned above, she was the recipient of a commission from the Rhode Island Committee for the Humanities to write a historical drama, "My mark, my name," 1977-1978.
