Biography
Playwright, actress, director, lecturer, and teacher, Holland was associated with the Frank Silvera Writers Workshop in New York City. Born in Greenwood, MS. Endesha Ida Mae Holland received a B.A. in Afro-American studies (1979), an M.A. in American studies (1984), and a Ph.D. in American studies (1985) from the University of Minnesota. While a student, Holland directed several dramatic productions at the University of Minnesota, where she performed, and served as stage manager and choreographer. Holland is the recipient of several theater awards: ACTF (American College Theater Festival) Student Playwriting Award, University of Minnesota, 1981; ACTF, Second Place, Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award, 1981; First Annual Playwriting Award presented by the Theater Arts Department, University of Minnesota, 1981.
