Summary
Martin Cohen, general manager of the State Ballet of Missouri (then under the artistic direction of Todd Bolender), discusses the challenges of financing a dance company. He discusses the building of dance audiences and the role of outreach programs in educating children to appreciate dance; government support for the arts, particularly the pivotal role played by the National Endowment for the Arts in the U.S.; and the various expenses entailed in running a dance company, not the least of which is compensating dancers as professionals.
