- Summary
- West Coast choreographer Anna Halprin performs her solo My grandfather dances, then talks about her long career. With the help of slide illustrations, she describes the new approach to dance and choreography that she began to develop beginning in the late 1950s, and notes some of her innovations: a more fluid approach to stage space, the use of words and vocalizing, more naturalistic costuming, the inclusion of children as performers, and introducing a greater sense of relation to life and real people. Among the experimental works she discusses are Parades and changes, Apartment 6, Slope event, Ceremony of us, Animal ritual, and Atonement. She also talks about her most recent work, choreography based on the five stages of healing.
