Summary
Part of a three-day Poetry and Dance Festival. In his lecture, poet Richard Howard "traces the trajectory of dance and the American soul" from Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman through the American dancers Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Martha Graham, quoting from their writings. He ends the lecture by reading three of his own poems.
