- Summary
- Part of the documentation of By word of foot II, a tap dancing festival presented by the Changing Times Tap Dancing Company on December 3 and 4, 1982. Panel discussion on comedy and tap dancing. The panelists discuss and demonstrate why tap lends itself more readily to comedy than other dance forms ; what makes a step funny ; different types of humor (i.e., slapstick and other types of physical humor, jokes and verbal humor) ; developing the material ; comic timing ; the undercurrent of sadness or tragedy in comedy. At the end of the panel Buster Brown, later joined by Ernest Brown, sings and demonstrates "Ballin' the jack."
