- Description
- [76] pages : 37 illustrations; 23 cm (4to)
- Summary
- Latin verses by Chelidonius on the themes of the prints at foot of title page and on the verso of all but the last two leaves. On verso of last print are laudatory verses by Chelidonius, addressed to Willibald Pirckheimer, and by Pirckheimer and Johannes Cochlaeus; last leaf has the colophon and warning against piracy on the recto, with blank verso. The verses were originally published approximately 1508 in a work with illustrations by Johannes Wechtlin under title: Passio Iesu Christi Saluatoris mundi vario carminu[m] genere F. Benedicti Chelidonij Musophili doctissime descripta; see Schoch (cited below), page 282.
- Illustrations: 37 woodcuts, comprising one on the title page (Bartsch 16) and 36 full-page cuts (Bartsch 17-52), all with monogram AD; Bartsch 32 and 37 are dated 1509 and Bartsch 18 and 38 are dated 1510; Bartsch 31 and 33 may be earlier than 1509. The order of plates (Bartsch 16-20, 22-23, 21, 24-52) is correct in relation to the text, thus differing from the Fairfax Murray and other copies in which the order is Bartsch 16-52.
