Summary
Focuses on the trumpet player Dizzy Gillespie, who, along with Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk and others, sparked the change from jazz into "bop" in the 40's. Dizzy talks about his beginnings, his viewpoints and theories regarding jazz. Footage includes Dizzy performing in various clubs with his quintet: James Moody, saxophone and flute; Kenny Barron, piano; Chris White, bass; Rudy Collins, drums. Also included is rare footage of Gillespie and Stan Kenton rehearsing the Los Angeles Neophonic Orchestra for the February 1, 1965 concert.
