Summary
Two-day forum, in which representatives of New York's downtown dance community explore the interactions between choreographers and dancers, a relationship far more complex than that between employers and employees in the corporate world. Complicating factors include the need to balance and sometimes separate the demands of art and business, resolving questions of artistic collaboration and credit, coping with the dance world's general lack of financial rewards, achieving workable interpersonal relationships in a field where loyalties and family feelings are often highly charged, dealing with a variety of work situations (e.g., working as a project-oriented freelance dancer or choreographer vs. being in an ongoing company). Only the sessions for the whole group were recorded ; the forum also included breakout sessions for smaller groups.
