- Summary
- Program on the exhibition Masks, the many faces of man, held at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Canada, from February 11 to April 5, 1959. The program, recorded in the exhibition's galleries, opens with a discussion by exhibition coordinator Walter Kenyon on the purposes of masks (e.g., transformation, identification, concealment). Alan Jarvis explains why masks are of interest to art historians. The guests examine and discuss the special characteristics of several specific examples, including modern masks by Picasso and other contemporary artists. The program includes a Siamese dance solo (without mask) by Charlotte De Neve, and a re-enactment of an Iroquois curing ceremony danced by De Neve and three masked male dancers.
